ARTIST STATEMENT
Over the course of the pandemic, I began to feel a lack of interest in everything. So, I’ve decided to revisit something that I used to like doing in class, Art. It feels like catching up with an old friend. A friendship that I’ve never fully committed.
In an average human life, we’ll inevitably encounter other people who will entangle with our lives. But nothing lasts forever. These people whom we might call acquaintances, friends or even families might break communications or leave us. Some might try to rekindle the flame in a few years, but that flame might have difficulty holding on from the candle that no longer exists.
My final project is a collection of several individuals that no longer has a connection in my life. From childhood, school, and workplace, people whom I spent countless hours with, to make our time less miserable. People whom I once knew, but are no longer in contact. I want the viewers to be prepared to let go those who were once close. Cherish their moments together and let time drift us apart.
Throughout my time at Dawson College, I’ve tried out various methods of creating art. So, for the medium, I’ve decided to go with digital pen & ink. Not only do I find it clean and comfortable to work with, but it also emphasizes the feeling of the distant past through its black and white scheme. Since it’ll include several people of different timelines, the pieces is of separate smaller sizes. In a larger polaroid style, hung up by clips on a string, as if they’re being developed from my memories.
